Since the mid century they have been using modern houses as the hip and cool backdrops. Look at every action movie villain since the first bond movies, and the parade of modern houses in cinema used to denote taste and wealth. As long as the clean modern looks stands slightly in contrast with the sometimes more traditional type tastes of the public I think it will hold a position as a unique and appropriate style (as opposed to the many faux-traditional newly built homes on the market).
